Councillor Vikki Slade – Leader of BCP Council

I think the biggest thing at the moment is the big decisions that we need to take around the budget – the challenge of being different, trying to work in a collegiate way when we are asking people to do more with less, and learning to trust each other’s judgement when we are still a fairly new group.

And perhaps a little personal one, I am thinking about the people who work with our bereaved – I am working on a case where a young man has died in detention and the impact it’s having on his family, it has opened my eyes to the work of the Coroner service – which is funded by the council and housed in our offices. It’s a service that most people

are not touched by, and I hope they will never be touched by, but it does crucial work and when we are working with shrinking budgets those invisible services are often forgotten.
